Please complete this form, if you would like to be added to the waiting list if someone is unable to travel unexpectedly.

We plan on taking another trip to Washington, D.C. on June 11, 2018, so there will be another chance be sworn in with the law school next year.

Join President & Dean Donald J. Guter in Washington, D.C. for a special admissions ceremony

For the first time since 2012, South Texas College of Law Houston is excited to give our alumni the honor of being sworn in in open court or by written motion to the United States Supreme Court. To reserve a space to be sworn in via written motion or in open court, paperwork and payment must be submitted no later than Friday, March 31, 2017.

Each person being admitted to the Court may bring one guest into the Supreme Court to witness the swearing-in. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Requirements for Admissions

  1. You must have been admitted to practice in the highest court of a state, commonwealth, territory or possession, or the District of Columbia for a period of at least three years immediately before the date of application; must not have been the subject of any adverse disciplinary action pronounced or in effect during that 3-year period; and must appear to the Court to be of good moral and professional character.

  2. You must have two non-relative sponsors who have been previously admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States who can sign your application. South Texas College of Law Houston alumni looking for sponsors can contact the Alumni Relations Office.

Application Requirements:

  • A certificate of good standing that demonstrates point one, above. If you are admitted to practice in Texas, you can get one here. Do not submit a State Bar Association certificate in place of the clerk’s certificate, or a duplicate of a certificate of good standing.

  • The Application for Admission to Practice from the United States Supreme Court. The admission form can be found on the Supreme Court website at: http://www.supremecourt.gov/bar/barapplication.pdf

  • A $200 check made out to the “United States Supreme Court” that covers the cost of admission.

  • Please note if you would like to be admitted in Open Court and travel to Washington, DC on June 5, 2017 or via written motion (no travel required; a certificate will be mailed to you by the Court).

Only original documents will be accepted – applications cannot be sent via email or fax. Your space is officially reserved when you have received a confirmation email from the South Texas College of Law Houston Alumni Relations Office. The first 30 applications completed in full (with the exception of sponsors) will be accepted.

IMPORTANT:

Each participant is responsible for making his or her own travel arrangements and hotel accommodations.

8:30 a.m. : Continental Breakfast
10:00 a.m. : Swearing-In Ceremony
12:00 p.m. : Optional lunch for you and your guest at Charlie Palmer ($30 per person)
1:00 p.m. : Thomas Jefferson Building Tour (optional)
