Awards Gala Will Laud Four of Our State's Best

Join us on Saturday, April 26, at the Hotel Zaza for the 2014 Awards Gala, where we will honor four who have made a true difference in the lives of Texas citizens. Receiving the College's highest award—our Dean's Medal—will be the Fred and Mabel R. Parks Foundation, while Dan L. Cogdell '82, Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman '89, and Mark T. Murray '90 will be presented with our Alumni Impact Awards.

Founded by the man whose name graces our law library, Fred Parks '37, and his wife, Mabel, the Fred and Mabel R. Parks Foundation  has provided outstanding support to our students and programs over the past ten years. Its most generous grant, presented in 2013, will fund the complete renovation of our campus's front entrance, which will significantly raise the College's profile in downtown Houston.

One of the most renowned criminal defense attorneys in the state, Dan Cogdell has won a multitude of high-profile cases in his 30-year career, including the Branch Davidian trial; the fraud trial of alternative-treatment cancer physician Stanislaw Burzynski; and the Enron Nigerian barge trial. He has been named a Texas Super Lawyer numerous times and been featured in both The Best Lawyers in America and Texas' Best Lawyers.

Appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by Governor Rick Perry in 2009, Justice Eva Guzman was recently named one of the "101 Most Influential Latino Leaders" by Latino Leaders magazine. In addition to her service on the bench, Justice Guzman has been a member of the South Texas Board of Directors since 2010 and was a member of our Alumni Association Board from 2007 to 2010.

A partner at Stevenson & Murray and president of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, Mark Murray is one of the top personal injury lawyers in Texas. He has been named a Texas Super Lawyer each year since 2003, and is a certified member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and a Life member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. At South Texas, Murray teaches advocacy as an adjunct professor and is a past president of our Alumni Association.

Also featured at the Awards Gala will be a tribute to our 50-year alumni for their exemplary service to the legal profession. To make your reservation for this exciting event, please click here.
