Eleven years ago, our law school started the South Texas Mock Trial Challenge graciously hosted at the Harris County Courthouse. This prestigious tournament brings together students from across the country for a national mock trial tournament. Hurricane Harvey forced the competition elsewhere for a few years and COVID had moved the tournament online. But this March, we hope to return the tournament to the Harris County Court Complex.
As you can probably imagine, after two years of Zoom fatigue, our students are very excited about the prospect of having an in-person tournament. And we are not alone, this year’s Challenge has attracted an entry of 42 teams of law students from across the country, most of whom have never had the opportunity to participate in an in-person advocacy competition. The Mock Trial Challenge will be one of the first advocacy tournaments back in-person.
