This endowed scholarship has been created to honor the life and memory of Benjamin H. Ruemke '11.
Ben Ruemke '11, a respected trial lawyer who used his passion for the law to fight for injured individuals, passed away onMonday, August 9 2021, at the age of 39, from natural causes.
As managing partner and shareholder in Paranjpe Mahadass Ruemke LLP ("PMR Law"), Ben was a true leader, a revered advocate for his clients and a faithful friend to everyone he met. He had a quality about him held by very few in this world, a genuine thoughtfulness. The following statement resonates with all those who knew Ben: “I have never met anyone that did not love Ben, and there was no one that Ben did not love.” Ben truly was a friend to all.
Ben was born in Mississippi and grew up in Arlington, Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from UCLA. After college, he moved to Houston where he attended South Texas College of Law. During his time at South Texas, Ben sought to enrich his experience by embracing every opportunity that law school offered. He was a member of South Texas Law Review, Order of the Lytae, Phi Delta Phi Honors Society, he worked at the Fred Perks Law Library and as a research assistant for the Dean. Ben also served on leadership boards for multiple student organizations including the South Asian Legal Society and he participated in an international mediation competition in Paris, France. He studied abroad in Malta and Prague and made many friends at home and overseas. Ben treasured his time at South Texas and was very proud of his alma mater. He used his experiences to encourage and inspire others to reach their dreams. He prioritized helping people and never missed an opportunity to offer advice or mentor a new colleague or aspiring attorney. Ben genuinely cared for all people, and he was loved by all. He is survived by his father, stepmother, brother and stepbrother. He will be greatly missed but his memory and spirit will always be with us.[Obituary]
